Screening of the best My Street Films in the Czech Centre in Berlin, Germany

We accepted an invitation of the Czech Centre in Berlin to introduce the best films of the film map to German audiences during Doku Montag. The screening included a presentation of the project and a call to enrich the map with films from the streets of Berlin.

My Street Films workshops at Krakow Film Festival, Poland

The “My Street Films” workshops are 10-day professional workshops with the goal of training participants in how to make documentary projects. The participants were expertly trained in a complex way in both the theory and practice of documentary filmmaking. The workshops included master classes and individual consultations. The participants chosen out of all candidates worked in 2 groups tutored by leading documentary filmmakers. The workshop was closed by the official screening of individual projects – the films were shown as part of the closing ceremony of the 57th Krakow Film Festival.

ACCOMPANYING EVENT: ARRI AMIRA in  creative documentary filmmaking

June 1, 2017, 10.00 – 16.30 – KPT MultiLab 

Cinematography workshop held by Marcin Koszałka PSC and Bogdan Dziworski PSC – acclaimed directors and cinematographers providing basic working knowledge of the ARRI AMIRA used for creative documentary filmmaking.

During the workshops, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the elements of a cinematographer’s workshop necessary in the course of making a documentary film. The films were shot using the professional camera Arri Amira. During filmmaking, Marcin Koszałka talked about, among others, how to consciously create the depth of image and the protagonist without using a large amount of equipment and lighting. Sometimes, a few simple measures can significantly influence the visual quality of the film being made.

Film workshop: film directing, cinematography and film editing, Budapest, Hungary

May 26 – 27, 2017

A film workshop about documentary filmmaking focused on film directing, cinematography and film editing. The workshop was organised in cooperation with Docuart Cinema, one of the main places for documentary filmmakers in Budapest. The aim of this foundation is to promote and establish anthropological filmmaking in Hungary. They organise professional events, festivals, conferences and workshops and have an international video archive and database in the field of migration. Staying at Docuart was also a great opportunity for the participants to meet significant Hungarian documentary film producers like György Durst.

The main themes of the workshop: Project planning: from planning to evaluation; How to write a screenplay; Basic intro to visual arts, filming and photography with free online applications and software; Use of relevant social media, mobile apps; Creative Commons, legal usage of music, photo and film; Shooting; Editing.

Month-long intensive workshop for registered participants focused on activist documentary - Autonomous Social Centre Klinika, Prague, Czech Republic

November 12 – 26, 2016

Under the guidance of documentary filmmakers Tereza Reichová, Apolena Rychlíková and Vladimír Turner, 3 groups of filmmakers worked on their films during 3 afternoon sessions. The workshop resulted in 5 short films addressing various themes ranging from the diverse celebrations of the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution through a portrait survey on women from the feminist block to an experimental play on visual smog.

Workshop for high school students - Slovakia

On June 22-23, My Street Films in partnership with the educational platform Mysli filmom organized a workshop for high school students. 8 participants made a film about the clash of public and private interest at public spaces under the guidance of two film professionals Viera Čákanyová and Peter Važan.

Screening of MSF films – Slovakia

In June 2016, A4 initiated public screenings of older My Street Films in 10 Slovak cities, mostly at independent cultural spaces. The aim of these screenings was to bring attention to the project in various parts of the country so people start shooting their films and enter the next competition. In August, one more screening was held at the 4 Elements film festival in Banská Štiavnica.

Special events

September 22, 2014, 9:45 pm – My Street Films Screening and Award Ceremony in Světozor Cinema

With all competition films already pinned to the My Street online film map, all we have to do is announce the best ones and present them with their deserved awards! The award ceremony will be held in the small screening hall of Světozor Cinema and will be preceded by a screening of nominated films.

The winner will receive an invitation to the Open City Docs Fest in London in 2015 along with a screening of his or her film, the second awardee will get an invitation to Jihlava IDFF 2014 along with a screening as well and the third awardee will receive complete music rights for his or her future noncommercial film from the database of hudebnibanka.cz which will also provide help with music choice. Moreover, all winners will receive a year-long access to the database of 1000 documentary films at the DAFilms.com portal and two passes to Jihlava IDFF.

September 13 - Your Čerňák, Your Film – Make It!

Do you know the Černý Most housing estate inside out and can think of places that could be depicted in a short film? Register on email michaela@praha14kulturni.cz for the film workshop during which you will find a theme, write a script and make a film with the help of professionals! Your Čerňák, your film - make it!

The Stop Zevling festival has joined the My Street Films map of Prague to fill in the empty space of Prague 14 with two short documentaries! In cooperation with the organizers of My Street Films, the festival organizes a one-day film workshop tutored by young directors Apolena Rychlíková and Vladimír Turner held on Saturday, September 13 at the Plechárna Černý Most centre for free. The team work of two film groups will result in two short documentaries to enter the film map at www.mystreetfilms.cz. The screening of the documentaries, held on Saturday, September 20, will become part of the programme of the last edition of the Street for Art festival. The workshop participants need no technological equipment or previous filmmaking experience; all you have to do is register.
